Since last week’s intro was about something I hate but do anyway… why not keep the theme going?
I hate going to the gym.
You think to go 4 times a week there would be some level of enjoyment, but nope. Every single time I pull into the car park I grumble and sigh as I walk over to the door.
So why do it?
Because in my opinion (and many others), lifting weights is one of the most important things you can do.
There are a few reasons:
1. Quality of life. So many people start falling apart as they get older. Weight training helps not only muscle, but tendon strength and bone density. These help you stay in one piece and prevent injury, meaning a higher quality of life for longer.
2. Productivity. When I hit a slump during the day, the gym acts as a reset and provides energy to get through the day.
3. Feels good. Working out makes the happy chemical. That helps with point (2).
4. Eat more. It would be dishonest of me to say that a major reason I gym is so that I can eat more and drink beer without worrying about it.
People always assume I love the gym, but nah. It’s these 4 things that mean there is no “motivation” required - it’s just something that has to be done.
If you’re not already weight training, hopefully you’ll consider it :)
